The Service Lead position is responsible to trouble shoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all types of vehicles/equipment within the company’s fleet. Must have practical knowledge of all types of machinery and tools, solid judgment and a good understanding of possible consequences of the work performed. This position will partner with management to evaluate, prioritize and delegate work amongst mechanics.
- Work along with Truck Shop Manager to prioritize and delegate workload for the mechanics.
- Directs, instructs and works with department staff and co-workers on vehicle/equipment repairs and maintenance issues.
- Works with individual vehicle/equipment operators to understand and solve complaints and concerns regarding proper vehicle/equipment maintenance and operation.
- Repair and maintain heavy duty transportation equipment
- Use hand tools and precision instruments, as well as power tools
- Comply with established company safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines; and be responsible for reporting un-safe practices to the truck shop manager.
- Will be responsible for maintaining accurate computer records of time and parts used on specific work orders.
- Work with parts department to ensure proper parts are being ordered and billed out in a timely manner
- Review repair orders to ensure 3 c’s are accurate and understandable
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Maintains equipment and tools including computer software for troubleshooting in good working condition and detects and reports malfunctioning equipment to management. Including computer software for troubleshooting
- Assist in developing transportation maintenance and repair procedures.
- Rebuild gas and/or diesel engines, reconditions and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears and valves.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to health and/or safety procedures.
- Provide training for mechanics on all service-related functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work with other departments for scheduling planned and unplanned maintenance on all equipment.
- Effectively communicate maintenance schedule with mechanics to ensure productivity and efficiency are being met
- Complete all assigned training by posted deadlines
- Participate in company on-call policy
- Perform regular one on one discussions with all mechanics
- Ensure safety equipment and specialty shop tools are maintained and in working order
- Ensure compliance with lock out/tag out policy on all equipment
- Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. .
- Minimum of 5+ years' related experience in heavy equipment and diesel engine repair experience required.
- Candidate must possess a valid and current California driver’s license.

- Strong computer skills and proficiencies in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and as a team
- Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Frequently climb ladders, and occasionally work at heights of 100 feet.
- Regularly exposed to work near moving parts/equipment.
- Regularly exposed to major amounts of dust.
- Regularly exposed to a moderate to severe noise levels.
- Frequently exposed to outdoor/uncontrolled weather conditions
- Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
