Position Description

The Penalty Review Specialist plays a vital role in evaluating and analyzing data submitted by customer applicants for penalty abatement consideration. Utilizing problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, the Specialist examines financial records, historical data, and evidence to render decisions in accordance with procedural standards, statutes, and tax laws. Duties involve recommending and implementing solutions to financial problems, conducting analytical research, and establishing effective communication with diverse stakeholders. The role also includes preparing clear and concise summaries, presenting statements logically, representing the department at informal hearings, and staying updated on tax laws and regulations. The Specialist must demonstrate proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and other computerized systems, particularly in spreadsheet applications. This position requires some college coursework in accounting or business, two years of professional experience, and Spanish language proficiency is advantageous. The Penalty Review Specialist performs other related duties as assigned within established guidelines.

Skills Required   Google Suite and/or Microsoft Programs - particularly proficient in Sheets/Excel and Gmail. Research, analytical and critical thinking, problem solving.

Experience Required Understands accounting and mathematical principles, written and verbal communication

Education Required Some college with major coursework in accounting, business or a closely related field or two years of professional experience
