We are currently seeking a Protein Formulation Scientist with the National Institutes of Health in Gaithersburg, MD.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The contractor in this position will play a crucial role in advancing protein/vaccine formulation and stability studies within a project development team. The position involves coordinating and executing formulation and stability studies, assay development, and analytical methods for vaccine and biotherapeutic characterization. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the team leader and senior personnel, demonstrating independence in sample generation and analysis, data interpretation, and report preparation. This role requires a strong understanding of protein/vaccine structure and stability, excellent coordination and communication skills, and the ability to present findings to various teams and interdepartmental meetings.
TASKS. The contractor shall:
Execute formulation and stability studies, coordinating tasks among team members and external personnel.
Interpret analytical data, understanding the implications on protein/vaccine structure and stability.
Generate and analyze samples using both standard and advanced analytical methods.
Independently analyze analytical sample data and submit for external testing.
Present study data to project teams and at interdepartmental meetings.
Execute assay development studies for vaccine and biotherapeutic characterization.
Prepare technical protocols and reports documenting studies, ensuring accuracy and adherence to design principles.
Contribute to professional manuscripts based on study results.
Provide technical guidance and training to team members.
Oversee external services and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
Comply with all relevant NIH and unit policies.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 2 years of relevant experience (Master's thesis may waive experience requirement).
Experience in protein/vaccine formulation, stability, pre-formulation, or biophysical characterization/development.
Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as UV-visible, fluorescence, Circular Dichroism, IR spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, and Particle characterization.
Strong knowledge of protein chemistry and biophysical properties of proteins.
Proficiency in biophysical and bioanalytical methods and theories.
Experience with data analysis using software like JMP, Origin, GRAMS, Prism, and SigmaPlot.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to balance multiple projects.
Exceptional interpersonal and group communication skills.
Strong written communication skills.
