Position Purpose:
- Plans, organizes and provides supervision and oversight for daily activities in the Tool Room. to maximize plant productivity and efficiency.
Position Relationships:
- Reports to Plant Manager
- Interacts with Human Resources, Production Management, Buyer/Planner, Quality Control, Warehouse, Maintenance, Customer Service and Sales.
- Interacts with equipment vendors and parts suppliers.
Maintenance Operations:
- Manages all Tool Room operations within appropriate process guidelines and budgets;
- Oversees all cost control/justification for department, including purchasing of tooling repair parts;
- Develops and implements modifications and improvements, recommending specifications and scheduling for new projects and process improvements;
- Schedules daily mold setting, cleaning and repair activities;
- Maintains preventive maintenance program for all molds and insures that these are performed as scheduled;
- Evaluates down time and efficiency reports to determine productivity levels and areas requiring special attention.
- Actively meets with vendors and suppliers to insure best price/quality are being received on all part and/or repair orders;
- Maintains and insures organization of tooling part inventory;
- Conducts lock-out/tag-out training as needed;
- Coordinates with outside repair vendors and insures that their work is completed according to standard procedures.
Personnel:
- Lead staff to accomplish activities in an efficient and safe manner by:
- Providing definition of job duties
- Providing training opportunities for staff
- Conducting performance evaluations
- Defining criteria for personnel advancement
- Administer coaching/counseling as required in a timely manner
- Provide accurate attendance records to human resources indicating any point assessments
- Enforce personnel policies and procedures; complete and submit all associated paperwork in a timely manner;
- Assists in the selection of staff;
- Maintain safe working conditions with a goal of 1 or less recordable accidents and zero lost time accidents;
- Control employee overtime hours.
Manufacturing Support:
- Assist other departments with special projects as assigned.
- Actively participate in production management team meetings as requested.
Education:
- BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to peers and subordinates on the repair and maintenance of tooling for injection molding, stretch blow molding, and assembly equipment
- Extensive knowledge of injection molding, stretch blow molding, and reheat and blow molding tooling
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and direct employees.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
- Flexibility to work some overtime, as necessary
- Preparation of cost estimates, budgets, correspondence and status reports
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Word
Experience:
- 5-7 years of progressive experience as a Plant Tooling Manager in a high volume-manufacturing environment.
- 4-5 years of experience in repair and maintenance of injection molding and/or stretch blow molding tooling.
