Job description

Clarke is currently seeking to appoint a student academic advisor to its new academic advising unit. The advisors should be committed to student success and playing key roles in the University's efforts at attracting and retaining students through quality, holistic advising practices. Specifically, Clarke University's student academic advisors will:
- Serve as the primary point of contact and collaborative partner for a cohort of first-year students to provide both registration and ongoing holistic support.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Clarke University curriculum and academic policies.
- Establish regular meeting times with their cohort of students while also being available for non-scheduled meetings with advisees as needed.
- Be proactive in communication with their advisees, with a common meeting standard minimum of once every month.
- Serve as a resource to all Clarke University students who are seeking holistic academic support.
- Complete referrals to other support offices as students share concerns; these include the Learning Center, Disability Services, and Student Engagement, among others.
- Provide active support for Clarke University's Student Support Network by pursuing information derived from the Student Support Network.
- Where appropriate, serve as a resource for the Academic Advising Committee and the institution's faculty concerning best practices in holistic advising.
Clarke University Academic Advisors report to the Director of Academic Advising.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- A commitment to assisting students in their transition to higher education and to student success.
- Experience in an educational setting in student academic advising, teaching, or a related area, such as counseling or customer service. Specific experience or training in academic advising is a plus.
- A graduate degree (preferred) and/or experience in education.
- Excellent verbal (written and oral) communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, and maintain pertinent documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different sectors of the organization, including Admissions, Enrollment Management, Student Engagement, and the faculty.
- A working knowledge of best practices in student academic advising and a demonstrated willingness to maintain currency in this area.
