Brief Job Overview

The Senior Communications Manager will support the Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+) program, a cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), which aims to strengthen medical product quality assurance systems and improve the supply of quality-assured medical products in low- and middle-income countries. The PQM+ senior Communications Manager leads the development and implementation of a communications plan for PQM+ under the leadership of the PQM+ M&E Director and in close coordination with technical, program, M&E, and country teams. They will identify and document program achievements, successes, and best practices. They will coordinate with the USP Global Communications team. This is a supervisory position.

How will YOU create impact here at USP?

The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the overall program communications strategy. This includes developing program communications content (success stories, exposure stories, videos, webinars, social media etc.)

The Senior Communications Manager leads a team of staff and consultants to:

• Maintain the program website

• Coordinate webinars and events

• Provide editorial oversight

• Build the capacity of staff to effectively communicate about program work

Who USP is Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, English literature, journalism, communications, or relevant field.

• 10 years of writing experience in a health-related field, with preference for direct experience with pharmaceutical product development and/or regulatory systems.

• At least two (2) years of experience as a communications manager or a related role in a USAID-funded project.

• Previous experience on USAID-funded projects and knowledge of USAID branding and marking policies required.

• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English

• Self-starter with proven ability to work across cultures and time zones.

Additional Desired Preferences

• MA preferred in public health, pharmacy studies or related field.

• Knowledge of activities related to global health system strengthening preferred (i.e.: quality management systems, medicine regulatory system strengthening, health system strengthening, health workforce development, etc.)

• Experience leading communications for a USAID-funded global health program

• Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team.

• Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.

• Experience with technical documents (statistics, tables, figures) and donor reporting.

• Proficient in using Constant Contact, MailChimp, or other similar software
