Job description
The Facilities Planning and Management Department at Iowa State University is hiring Electrician Trainees. The Trainees will be enrolled in a 4-year Apprenticeship Program which will include on-the-job training and classroom education through ABC of Iowa. At the end of the program, the Trainees will be prepared to test to become a Journeyman Electrician. Successful candidates will be motivated and committed individuals with a strong desire to learn and work as part of a team. Trainees will start with Iowa State University for on-the- job training. Regular work hours are between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday â Friday. Beginning in October through December, trainees will attend on-site classroom training in Grimes through ABC of Iowa. Classes are held (Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
All trainees must be 18 years of age and have earned a high school diploma or high school equivalency (GED or HSED). Training Sponsors are required to retain a copy of each trainee/apprenticeâs diploma and transcripts in their apprentice file.
The undersigned trainee agrees to attend ABC of Iowa Apprenticeship courses in Grimes, Iowa, completing the required levels of attendance. This includes in-class work and testing as well as web-based work and testing that is needed to pass each individual level (Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4). Costs associated with the training are paid by Iowa State University as the Training Sponsor. The starting pay for this position is $18.63 per hour. Trainees will receive a pay increase at each of level of completion in the apprenticeship. Upon program completion, pay will be increased to the starting wage for an Electrician I. The trainee will sign an Apprenticeship Fees reimbursement Agreement as part of the hiring process.
Under direct supervision, the trainee receives work experience and related training instruction to develop the knowledge and skill necessary to perform at the journeyman level upon completion of the training program to install and repair electrical systems and equipment. The trainee participates in training that is required to progress to eligibility for the Electrician I classification.
