Job description

Duties

Prepare a variety of medium complex electrical engineering technical drawings, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring diagrams, panel front view drawings, equipment arrangement, grounding layouts, conduit layout plans, elevation and bill of materials. Review and coordinate with the field on overhead/underground electrical distribution/transmission line drawings.  Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software to perform calculations including ampacity/derating, battery sizing, AC/DC station service loading, voltage drop & conduit fill following standard methods and principles.  Confer with engineers, clients, field personnel, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products.  Manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.  Serve as team lead to review work of lower-level engineers for all aspects of substation designs.  Coordinate with other disciplines.  Perform quality verifications (QA/QC) for electricals drawings and calculations prior to issuing for construction.  Review vendor drawings. Provide manhour, schedule, and cost estimates for proposals.  Provide construction engineering and technical support to the construction operations for electrical distribution and substation projects.  Create and review the accurate/current technical documents produced for the project and complete any As-Built markups. Function as the liaison with suppliers, various vendors, construction crews, and design engineers for technical support. Work closely with the design engineers, purchasing and materials management, project controls, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure that design information, construction materials, and necessary services are available to support the project schedule. Provide critical construction engineering and technical support to the construction operations. Ensure technical documents remain accurate and up-to-date while proactively engaging with suppliers/vendors on any technical issues that may arise. No hire/fire authority. 

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related and three years of related experience.  Must have experience with designing and reviewing overhead and underground distribution systems with voltage levels of (up to 34.5kV), transmission and substation design (minimum of 34.5kV).  Must have experience with electrical engineering detailed design, field engineering, and site inspections.  Must have experience with procurement management and material handling. Must have experience with Poleforeman, O-Calc, and AutoCAD. Must have experience with Microsoft Office and PDF writing software such as Bluebeam Revu, Adobe or related.  Must have experience with applicable codes and standard for substation projects, including NESC, NEC, and IEEE and has a proven record of accomplishment of successful project delivery.  National travel up to 100%.  Telecommuting permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Tualatin, OR office. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
