Job Title: Design Assurance Engineer - NME Program
Program Overview:
This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration organization, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of 45,000 flights and 3 million passengers traversing over 28 million miles of U.S. controlled airspace every day. A critical service that enables that massive responsibility involves the sustainment, development, and implementation of air traffic control surveillance capabilities. The incumbent for this position will be involve directly in that critical work.
Objective Area Solutions (OAS) is seeking an experienced Design Assurance Engineer to join our Aviation Programs Team in supporting our FAA clients. This team supports technical programs in developing and establishing requirements, alternative solutions and architecture in support of existing and new federal aviation acquisition programs.
The role involves decomposition of legacy air traffic systems, analysis of alternatives, developing requirements and capabilities, and partnering with federal clients for innovative options to re-imagine the support of aviation systems to national airspace operations support within the range of technical possibilities.

Position Functions & Skills:
Supporting the company under the direction of the project leadership, the project analyst will be expected to support a client by leveraging high-value, practical consulting support in the following areas:
- Provide Design Assurance Engineering Analysis support for the NAVAIDS Monitoring Equipment (NME) Program
- Identify Design Assurance (DA) levels allocation to software and hardware based on the system architecture to achieve system DA objectives
- Conduct Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) allocations to define planning, requirements, design, test, Configuration Management (CM), and Quality Assurance (QA) objectives for system safety
- Identify evidence supporting the achievement of software/hardware DA levels identified in the FHA
- Map evidence to demonstrate DA objectives achievement and identify gaps (DA Gaps) requiring additional work or documentation
- Provide support for Requirements Reviews, Development Reviews, and Verification Reviews
- Identify software functions requiring DO-278A Assurance Levels 1-5 and hardware functions requiring DO-254 DA Levels A-E
- Develop enterprise architecture products
- Provide engineering services supporting Hardware/Software (HW/SW) Gap Analysis based on final Program Requirements Document (fPRD), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), and other safety artifacts
- Develop DO-278A Compliance Audit, DO-254 Compliance Audit, SAE ARP-4754 Compliance Audit, and compile a Development Assurance Compliance Report
- Deliver a synopsis of DA work performed, including results, and support integration with the System Safety Assessment Report (SSAR) and other safety artifacts
Required Education, Skills & Capabilities:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, including engineering, computer science, operations research, mathematics, or physics, and/or similar experience
- US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- 20+ years of knowledge and experience in engineering large, complex systems with experience specifically in Design Assurance Engineering (Masters degree in a related field counts for three-years' experience)
- Familiarity with FAA regulations and standards
- Expertise in the FAA's Safety Risk Management (SRM) processes including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and mapping evidence for compliance
- Experience in identifying and addressing Design Assurance (DA) gaps
- Knowledge of software and hardware assurance levels (DO-278A, DO-254)
- Ability to participate in technical meetings and design reviews
- Proficient in developing enterprise architecture products
- Strong engineering background supporting Hardware/Software Gap Analysis
- Experience in conducting Compliance Audits for DO-278A, DO-254, and SAE ARP-4754
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver clear and concise reports
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Experience working with PMs, Directors, and SMEs from diversified technical, functional, business, and cultural backgrounds
- Able to multi-task; be a team player who can interact with both executives and peers
- Ability to satisfy FAA resume approval processes
