Job description
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota is the world’s busiest wildlife hospital, providing medical care and rehabilitation to injured, sick, and orphaned wild animals. Every patient’s first stop is our intake department where the client bringing the animal is greeted and assisted by intake volunteers or staff.
The part-time Intake Specialist is responsible for providing excellent client care and supporting WRC’s team of intake volunteers. This includes working alongside volunteers and providing staff support for complicated client situations. The Intake Specialist also sets the tone for how the public perceives WRC, providing professional and compassionate customer service to our clients who are bringing animals to the clinic, or calling with questions. The Intake Specialist has a direct impact on fundraising through their dedication to delivering exceptional service at the intake desk and over the phone.
Direct responsibilities include:
- Weekly intake desk/phone shifts. Assist in covering last minute scheduling vacancies as needed.
- Maintain positive relationships with volunteers, ensuring that they are well-informed of current protocols and trends, and to provide ongoing wildlife education
- Serve as point person for communications with clients who have complicated needs, and in situations where expertise and ongoing support may be needed
- Maintain data quality within our database
- Stock the front desk and help keep the lobby organized
- Assist with communications and operations projects as needed
Details:
- Position is on-site in Roseville, MN with minimal hours of work available remotely, mainly phone shifts
- Intake Specialist will work closely with WRC’s Intake Manager (direct supervisor) and fellow Intake Specialist
- WRC is open 365 days a year. Position will include working on weekends and occasionally holidays
Compensation and Benefits:
- Position is part time, averaging an estimated 24 hrs/wk. Due to WRC’s fluctuating seasonal workload, hours needed may during peak summer season, and decrease during winter season. Position is salaried at $14,000/yr so paychecks will not fluctuate.

Minimum qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills via face-to-face conversations, in writing, and on the phone
- Polished and professional client service presence, and commitment to stellar customer care
- Commitment to listening, empathizing, and finding creative solutions with volunteers and clients
- Ability to remain calm and work efficiently in an emotional, fast-paced environment
- Commitment to being a respectful and cooperative member of the team
- Ability to stand for lengths of time, bend, and lift 15lbs
- Ability to work around animals, potential allergens (including peanuts), and zoonotic diseases
Preferred qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional experience in customer service or related role
- Animal handling experience
- Typing proficiency and competency in Microsoft Office
- Database management experience
- Bilingual and/or cross-cultural experience
