Job Title: Senior Cloud Database Engineer

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Cloud Database Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our growing Technical Operations team, supporting the expansion of our company and technology organization. Dive into the latest technology trends within a data-driven culture while enjoying the collaborative and supportive atmosphere of our engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, and enhance our database infrastructure across both production and non-production environments, strategically implementing automation where applicable.
Develop and evolve code pipelines, with a focus on data migrations, and create automation to facilitate agile software development.
Efficiently collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Security, Data Science, Application, and IT, to solve complex problems related to functionality, scaling, and performance.
Lead the administration and operation of relational cloud-based databases, handling projects such as migrations, high-availability implementations, metrics improvements, and performance tuning.
Provide training and best practices to Technology teams, aiming to enhance the quality of database queries and performance.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond reliably and professionally to incidents, leading technical troubleshooting when necessary.
Collaborate with Security and Engineering teams to ensure compliance with data privacy standards, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant regulations.
Document and communicate effectively, transforming obscure business knowledge into well-understood collective knowledge.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you bring:

6+ years of experience building and maintaining highly available cloud-based relational database infrastructure in AWS, with expertise in RDS Aurora MySQL and RDS Aurora Postgres.
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
Strong experience with MySQL and Postgres transactional management, indexing strategies, backup and recovery models, and SQL query performance tuning.
Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance with data privacy regulations.
Understanding of SOX compliance requirements related to databases.
Familiarity with data modeling and application of modeling techniques to meet integration and performance expectations.
Expertise in automating repeatable processes using scripting languages such as Bash.
Experience working with non-production database environments and supporting data pipelines.

Bonus Skills:

Familiarity with technologies such as Kubernetes, Ruby on Rails, Elixir, Kafka, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, ElastiCache Redis.
Experience with ORMs like ActiveRecord or Ecto.
Proficiency in git and Github workflows, with knowledge of GitOps.
Experience working with remote-first teams using tools such as Slack and Google Workspace.
