Position Summary/Description:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Human Resources (HR) Director provides leadership and oversight of human resources service delivery for the School of Social Work ( SSW ) and all departments, projects, and areas within the school. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration, this position provides services inclusive of recruiting & hiring, promotion, classification & compensation, policy interpretation, training, reporting, benefits, orientation, and employee relations for all employee groups ( EHRA Faculty, EHRA Non-Faculty, SHRA , Students and Temporary employees). This position is the Human Resource subject matter expert and provides interpretation, consultation, and advice to ensure compliance with relevant Federal, State and University policies for the school. The HR Director manages operational human resources related issues for all employee groups ( EHRA Faculty, EHRA Non-Faculty, SHRA Staff, and Student and Temporary employees) and all University affiliates, volunteers and visiting scholars in the school. The HR Director provides expert advice and consultation on the full range of human resources matters, including, but not limited to strategic planning, policy development and implementation, as well as the determination and evaluation of service excellence goals. This position is a strategic liaison for key central offices and coordinates interactions between the School and the Office of Human Resources, Faculty Affairs, the Equal Opportunity, and Compliance Office ( EOC ), the International Student and Scholars Services office ( ISSS ), and Payroll Services. The HR Director develops and communicates human resource policies (internal and external), human resource reporting ( EOC and for external, related groups such as the Council on Social Work Education), coordinates group and individual training (internal and external), provides guidance and support through employee relations issues and manages the performance standards and performance management processes. The HR Director is responsible for integrating HR best practices within the school and serves as an advocate to and an active participant in the University's community of Human Resource professionals. As the School's human resource lead, the HR Director provides leadership and oversight to all employees within the SSW HR Department. A significant portion of time will be dedicated to oversight of the daily operations of the SSW HR Department unit and serving as the initial escalation point for resolving human resources inquiries or issues. The HR Director plans, designs, and facilitates training and development for the HR team to ensure successful execution of HR functions and processes and is charged with establishing and sustaining effective and efficient human resources business processes and continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the HR Director represents the School of Social Work on the Carolina HR Council and other committees as appropriate.Education and Experience:
* Preferred candidates will have solid knowledge of University and state HR policies, procedures, processes, and technologies as they relate to EHRA and SHRA personnel and payroll issues and the ability to interpret and communicate this information to the campus community.
* Five years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a Human Resource Generalist capacity.
* Experience in higher education or the non-profit sector is preferred.
* Familiarity with state, trust, and grant funding. Research Administration training is a plus.
* Previous service in a role with supervisory experience.
