The Sports Injury Management Specialist is responsible for overseeing the healthcare needs of participating athletes. This includes providing first aid and emergency care, on-site injury assessments, implementing appropriate treatment modalities, injury prevention, rehabilitation programs, and medical referrals as necessary. All athletic training services for sports-related events are to be delivered in accordance with existing contracts. This position reports to the Orthopedic Service Line Director.

Responsibilities:

• Sports Injury Management:
• Perform a range of functions related to athletic injuries, including prevention, recognition, assessment, treatment (including first aid), and reconditioning, following the guidelines established by the NATA Board of Certification.
• Develop treatment programs that encompass modalities, therapeutic exercises, and strength and conditioning programs based on evaluation findings and treatment goals defined by the injury assessment or treating physician.
• Prepare athletes for treatment, ensuring their comfort and safety, and carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.
• Apply treatment procedures and modalities in accordance with established indications and contraindications.
• Continuously assess athletes' progress in response to treatment and make necessary program modifications. Refer athletes for appropriate diagnostic and follow-up procedures and track injuries accordingly.
• Coordinate follow-up treatment/appointments with the physician's office manager and/or Rehab scheduling team, ensuring immediate access to services.
• Keep open lines of communication with athletes, parents, athletic directors, coaches, and physicians regarding athletes' playing status and readiness to return to competition, all while respecting confidentiality.
• Demonstrate expertise in taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
• Maintain athletes' medical records and relevant paperwork, including statistics and injury logs, as required.
• Demonstrate confidence in handling crisis or emergency situations and adhere to safety practices.

• Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, along with current National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) certification.
• Two years of athletic training experience in a sports environment.
• CPR certification is required within 90 days of the hire date.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with players, coaches, and other team personnel.
• Possess knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan and the ability to assess data reflecting athletes' status and interpret the relevant information.
