Job description
*This position will temporarily be located at our Chatsworth location with plans to move to Thousand Oaks Spring 2024!
Momentum is seeking an Art Advisor for our new Adult Day Program in Thousand Oaks. The Art Advisor will implement the visual and performing arts curriculum and instruction plans. The Art Advisor will assist with adaptive tools and any necessary equipment to increase independent skill acquisition and practice; provide oversight to artists and supportive staff to maintain safety, ensure dignity, empower personal expression, and cultivate skill acquisition.
Art Advisor Essential Responsibilities:
- Acts as a personal mentor to support the professional growth, skills, and vision of the artists paired with them
- Supports training, skills practice, and task timelines related to the professional development of participating artists facilitating sequential goals in conjunction with the Gallerist & Professional Development Manager
- Supports implementation of weekly instructional plans with staff to ensure continuity. Coordinates daily activity regarding the individual preference of the participants as well as their ISP goals
- Works with instructional team to create art-based objectives that incorporate increased dexterity, motor coordination, self-expression, and communication. Maintains notes on projects and individual progress
- Trains staff to utilize alternative supports to optimize independent art-making and personal expression
- Coordinates internal and external art projects in conjunction with the Gallerist & Professional Development Manager
- Coordinates collaboration between all programs in Momentum as designated by the Gallerist & Professional Development Manager
- Provides any level of direct support required by program participants, including but not limited to, personal care in the restroom, assistance to eat and drink, and coaching individualized instruction
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferred; and/or five years of skilled visual or performing arts practice
- A minimum of one year of experience working with people with disabilities; preferred
- Mastery of related fine art techniques related to position
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to assist with personal care needs of individuals; including restroom support and feeding
- Ability to work in a professional manner with other departments within the facility and with community representatives
- Ability to effectively communicate and follow directions, both orally and written in English
- Positive attitude with flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the department
- Ability to reorganize workload and direct staff to assure completion of all personal care and program goals
Requirements:
- Must have a valid California driver’s license, insurance, reliable transportation, and clean driving record
- Ability to run, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds
- Successfully pass all post-offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
