Job description
Firebird AST is seeking an onsite Research Scientist/ Program Analyst with an active Top Secret/SCI clearance to serve as a subject matter expert and provide critical scientific and technical analytic support to the Counter WMD Technologies Department for our government client in Lorton, VA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a technical/scientific resource on projects, analyzing problems and applying theoretical techniques to develop solutions.
- Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge on subjects such as mechanics, fluid mechanics, quantum mechanics, geology, optics, acoustics, electricity, pneumatics, magnetism, and electromagnetic and particle radiation.
- Subject matter expertise in nuclear and radiation detection and sensing technologies used to improve, integrate, and enhance senior leader decision support.
- Advise on use, maintenance, tests, and development of mathematical and scientific models to study complex systems.
- Prepare technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions and conclusions of scientific investigations.
- Provide advice and assistance with source selection decisions.
- Support important technical interface client engagements, responsible for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of contracted work required to satisfy a range of technical performance including nuclear technologies, weapons systems, emerging WMD threats, hazard prediction and mitigation, detection systems.
- Assist program managers with contract management items, such as acquisition package development, contract performance evaluation, and deliverables quality and acceptability assessment.
REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science in Physics, Engineering, or relevant field related to Physics or Nuclear Engineering with 5 to 10 years of experience.
- Demonstrated success in R&D, acquisition, engineering programs or projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work with common office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Skype, Windows, SharePoint)
- Ability to translate requirements and observations into clearly defined written products (briefings, reports, White Papers) in short timeframes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- DoD TS/SCI clearance.
- Travel may be required up to 30%.
PREFERRED
- Master of Science or a Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant STEM field related to Physics or Nuclear Engineering with 3 to 5 years of experience.
- Experience in an engineering, scientific or acquisition analysis function, including research.
- Project Management experience; knowledge of systems design and development and optimization, from concept to test and evaluation.
- Familiarity with Joint Services processes, operations, and CCMDs regarding DoD systems/architectures.
- Understanding of nuclear weapons, detection, modeling, countering WMD technologies, or related work.
- Specific technical expertise in CWMD operations, military utility assessments, and/or target assessments.
- Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle.
- Familiarity with the countering weapons of mass destruction missions, technology, and organizations.
- Familiarity with combatant command (COCOM) organizations and missions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, reports, policy, legal documents, etc.
- Ability to prepare reports and presentations to company management and customer(s)
- Demonstrated leadership ability, strategic and innovative thinker, and passion for the mission.
- Ability to identify and solve problems.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science in Physics, Engineering, or relevant field related to Physics or Nuclear Engineering.
CLEARANCE
- Active/current DoD TS/SCI.
