BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS
Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under direction of terminal management, coordinate / oversee all shift activities of assigned employees in the transfers of hazardous and non-hazardous products in compliance with training provided in accordance with work instructions and government regulations (EPA, FRA and OSHA).
- Works under minimal supervision.
- Perform all duties of a Loader 3, as required.
- Train and provide direction and/or assistance, answer questions and monitor the work of Loaders.
- Provide direction for the loading and unloading of railcars and verify that paperwork is correctly completed.
- Ensure all safety and operational procedures are followed.
- Assist management in identifying and correcting potential operational and/or safety hazards.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Participate in and present daily Safety/Quality Talks.
- Confer with Management regarding operational and employee issues.
- Assist employees in troubleshooting difficulties in the loading process.
- Communicate with customers, vendors and carriers as needed.
- Assist management with recommendations on employee performance, safety and incentive activity.
- Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment
- Coordinate the completion of general preventative maintenance activities, repairs and housekeeping tasks
- Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization
- Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures and regulatory requirements
- Understand and comply with Shipper Confidentiality when discussing Shipper Accounts
- Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested and instructed by supervision
- Work with other crew leads to ensure proper turnover is complete and all pertinent information is conveyed and understood.
Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements include:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 1 year at Lead Loader level or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years Hazmat and Rail Yard experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operative mobile equipment (Shuttlewagon, front end loaders, forklifts, XUV's and Tractors).
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
- In order to appropriately perform essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in performing transloads of ethanol products in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Must have experience with Level 1 Maintenance, includes experience using hand tools performing general maintenance tasks.
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of terminal operations.
- Must have experience using hand tools.
- Must be competent in all skills of Lead Loader.
- Must have basic math skills (addition, subtraction and multiplication).
- Must be proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Must have good organizational skills.
- Must have good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, in English.
- Must be able to focus attention and follow work rules.
- Must be able to accept supervision/direction and work effectively and cooperate with other people.
- Must be able to adjust to changing operating conditions.
- Must be able to identify hazards and take appropriate action to resolve safety issues.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all requirements for any emergency.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC:
- Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers and must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
- First Aid / CPR certification.
- Must possess safety training and security certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by all Kinder Morgan locations.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.
- Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
- Ability to identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.
- This position consist of outside work and adverse weather conditions may apply.
- Must be able to climb up and down rail cars to a height of up to 20 feet.
- Must meet physical requirements, including, but not limited to: consistently lifting / carrying and pulling / pushing weights / forces up to 60 pounds, routinely gripping forces of up to 80 pounds, routine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and squatting, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, standing, sitting and negotiating uneven and moving surfaces.
- Must be capable of gripping forces of up to 80 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Work non-traditional hours (12 hour shift rotations); work schedule based on train arrival, generally with an 8 to 12 hour notice.
- Must be able to work extended hours and overtime as needed.
- Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
