Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Art Therapist in the Acute Inpatient and, Child and Adolescent Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Art Therapist is to provide art and creative arts therapy services. Provides individual and group assessments. Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Facilitates art therapy sessions to meet individual goals and objectives.
• Develops and implements creative arts therapy groups, utilizing art therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and needs of the individuals served.
• Possesses a deep knowledge of the theory and practice of art therapy.
• Creates a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals served to express themselves through art.
• Assists in providing a structured, safe therapeutic milieu, which includes being knowledgeable of hazards or toxicity of art supplies and the need to safeguard individuals served.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Master's Degree in Art Therapy or related field.
• Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who have not yet obtained all required licensure or board eligibility. Documentation of all required licensure and board eligibility must be provided prior to the commencement of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Position requires standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and listening. Moderate physical effort, lift/carry up to 20 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : Moderate noise. Subject to unpredictable situations and both medical and psychiatric crises. Possible exposure to individuals exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
