POSITION SUMMARY
The Ordinance Enforcement Officer reports to the Ordinance Enforcement Supervisor; regulates and ensures compliance to City, County and State laws and ordinances as they relate to public health, safety, and welfare; addresses property maintenance, graffiti, blight, and other public nuisances.
This position is within the Department of Neighborhoods includes the following divisions: Communications, Code Enforcement, Animal Services, Facilities, Parks, Property Management, and Arts Council.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Patrols, inspects, and takes action to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and health/safety regulations.
- Patrols city to identify code violations at residential, business, and institutional properties.
- Receives and responds to complaints of potential code violations.
- Conducts field investigations and premise inspections to identify and document violations.
- Makes findings, gathers evidence, and reports violations of hazardous conditions, safety, sanitation, and health issues.
- Meets with owners and/or tenants to review and educate regarding code requirements.
- Issues warnings, correction notices and citations to ensure code compliance.
- Works on coordinated enforcement efforts with other city departments, such as police, fire, and community development, and with other agencies, such as the health department.
- Maintains case logs and records related to inspections and enforcement activities.
- Prepares documentation for cases proceeding through court for resolution.
- Testifies and presents evidence in court hearings.
- Communicates with the public, both in the office and on-site.
Oversees abatements of nuisance properties.
- Identifies abatement problems to resolve, including unsecured vacant buildings and property.
- Directs hiring and work of others to clean up, secure properties, and remove nuisances.
Supports other City programs, departments, divisions, and outside agencies as needed and as directed.
- Attends meetings and joint inspections to serve as a resource to other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies.
- Assists with volunteer groups to clean up neighborhoods and properties.
- Participates in community events to educate the public on role of code enforcement.
- Fulfills GRAMA requests for government records.
