Job Description About the role: 10x Genomics is looking for a
Director, Mechanical Engineering to scale their mechanical engineering organization for the next phase of 10x’s growth.
The selected candidate will be responsible for managing a team of mechanical engineers for the development and commercialization of cutting-edge instrument platforms for breakthrough genomics applications. The individual must have the technical acumen, vision and passion to establish and grow a world class mechanical engineering organization and establish a culture of uncompromising excellence. They must also combine technical leadership and excellence in people management to operate successfully within a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary Product Development team.
What You Will Be Doing The Director of Mechanical Engineering has both a strategic and a technical role in the company:
- Direct the mechanical engineering team to lead instrument development, set goals for the team, hire top talent and prioritize projects.
- Contribute to the foundational architecture of instruments and provide technical leadership on all mechanical aspects of the product.
- Work closely with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure new products are scalable in production.
- Coordinate efforts across Mechanical engineering organization and sister groups in Optical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, and the Manufacturing organization.
- Ensure reliability, manufacturability, and standards compliance are designed into all hardware products.
To Be Successful, You Will Need - 10 years of hardware engineering experience within a fast-paced-collaborative environment.
- Hands-on experience building and commercialization complex instruments.
- Experience scaling and building highly technical mechanical engineering team focused on product development.
- Have a mindset of challenging the status quo with regards to established versus new processes/technologies balanced with a highly logical and disciplined approach towards down selection of the right solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to attract, develop and retain top talent while providing mentorship and career advancing opportunities to managers and subordinates
- Leadership skills in a highly-matrixed environment, which involves project and functional organization; ability to motivate an organization to act.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and to make progress with multiple project and functional priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated listening and synthesizing skills.
- Education: PhD/MS/BS in a mechanical engineering discipline
Nice To Have Skills & Background - Experience in the development of capital equipment for the life science or medical fields
Below is the base pay range for this full time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. $252,000 — $308,000 USD
