Position Description:The Department of Dermatology seeks a highly-motivated postdoctoral scholar to join the laboratory of Ali Jabbari, MD, PhD in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Iowa.
The main focus of study is alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease in which T cells attack the hair follicle. A mouse model of the disease exists that recapitulates the disease and allows for mechanistic studies, and access to human tissue samples are readily available through the University of Iowa Department of Dermatology clinics.
The most likely initial project for the candidate would be to examine the mechanisms by which IL-27 treatment prevents the development of alopecia areata in our mouse model. Readouts to include those ascertained by flow cytometry, ELISAs, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, etc.
Education Requirement:Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, or other biology discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience including M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
Required Qualifications:At least one year of laboratory experience conducting research that involves flow cytometry, mouse husbandry, ELISAs, QPCR/PCR, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, in vitro cell culture, etc.
Proficiency in computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office, FlowJ or FCS Express, Graphpad Prism are required.
Desirable Qualifications:Experience with grant writing or solicitation of external funding.Experience managing student research projects.Abilty to work independently and work on multiple projects.Experience working in the area of mouse models of autoimmunity.
