REPORTS TO:Deputy Superintendent

LOCATION:Service Center

CONTRACT DAYS:Days and benefits will be specified in the employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on the actual start date.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Extensive experience in security management and law enforcement.
• Knowledge of relevant safety and security laws and regulations.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

SUMMARY

The Director of Safety and Security is a critical leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and security programs within the school district. This role is dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors by managing risk, emergency preparedness, and security measures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

• Develop and implement a District Safety and Security plan aligned with the goals and objectives of the school district.
• Continuously assess and update security protocols to address emerging threats.
• Establish and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including natural disasters, intruders, and other crisis situations.
• Conduct regular drills and training sessions for staff and students.
• Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of security infrastructure, including surveillance systems, access control, and alarm systems.
• Ensure the proper functioning of security equipment and technology.
• Recruit, train, and supervise security personnel, including school resource officers and other relevant staff.
• Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to enhance school security.
• Develop and enforce safety and security policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Stay informed about changes in relevant laws and adjust policies accordingly.
• Conduct regular risk assessments of school facilities and grounds to identify vulnerabilities.
• Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
• Collaborate with district administrators, staff, parents, and community members to address safety concerns and implement effective security measures.
• Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Lead the response to security incidents, coordinating with law enforcement and other emergency services as necessary.
• Conduct post-incident debriefs and implement improvements based on lessons learned.
• Develop and implement a communication plan for disseminating safety information to the school community.
• Communicate regularly with stakeholders about safety and security initiatives and updates.
• Provide ongoing training for staff and students on safety procedures and protocols.
• Organize community outreach programs to educate parents and community members on safety measures.
• Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the public information area.
• Provides research and support in a variety of educational areas.
  Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
• Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of the public information function.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
  Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.
• Serve on committees as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS   

• Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
