About the Facility - Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) PIMC provides direct health care services to over 156,000 patients. The Tribes that comprise the Phoenix Service Unit are, The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and the San Lucy District of the Tohono O'odham Nation, the Tonto Apache Tribe, and the Yavapai-Apache Indian Tribe, and the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe. Tribal members who receive care at PIMC are often residents of the great Phoenix area and hail from Tribes throughout the U.S. The PIMC also provides specialty care to rural and remote reservation health care facilities in Arizona, Nevada and Utah. The scope of services provided at this facility include: adult medical surgical unit, anesthesia, audiology, behavioral health, dental, dermatology, diabetes, emergency department, eye department, hospitalist, infection control, intensive care unit, nutrition services, pathology and lab services, pediatrics, pharmacy, podiatry, primary care medical clinic, public health education, public health nursing, orthopedics, otolaryngology, radiology, respiratory therapy, rheumatology, surgery, and women's health services.

RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to) - Prepare human tissue and bodily fluids specimens by treating the specimens with chemicals, slicing and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist.
- Perform specimen collections, accessioning and logging routines. Making scheduled rounds within facility to pickup surgical/other clinical specimens. You are also to check each specimen for criteria of acceptability, assuring proper patient identification, specimen integrity and submission of appropriate paperwork.
- Record the receipt of specimen and assign identification numbers according to department and/or facility protocol. Referring any problem specimen to the area of collection and informing department manager of the required information.
- Clean the workstation after completing grossing procedures, ensuring aseptic techniques, and observing health safety protocols during cleanup to minimize exposure risks.
- Routinely prepare and maintain equipment used for all types of tissue processing, embedding, cutting and mounting, labeling, recording and verifying the quality of slides delivered to pathologist.
- Set up equipment, instruments and apparatus for specific laboratory procedures and perform preventive maintenance and quality control procedures on the lab equipment.
- Rotation of reagents/materials; maintain proper inventory.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Morgue Room.
- Assist in the disposal of used/expired chemicals/reagents and tissues using proper PPE and safety materials.
- Provide technical assistance and training to laboratory personnel as required/needed.
REQUIREMENTS - Years of experience: minimum of one year experience with preference in histology.
- Education: must have an Associate's degree for HT and a Bachelor's degree for an HTL.
- Certification/Licensure: certification from an acceptable Histotechnology Program.
TERMS Period of performance is estimated for 1 June 2022 through 31 May 2027. Currently this is being solicited for a base of one year and four (4) option years.
