Position Summary:

The diagnostic sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis.

Education, License & Cert:

ARRT/RDMS certification or certification eligible required: If certification eligible must pass certification within 12 months of hire date.

Essential Functions:
  1. Performs the scanning examination requested by the referring physician, modifying the examination, depending on the findings demonstrated, and review the examination with the supervising radiologist.
  2. Assists the radiologist or the clinician in special procedures such as percutaneous fluid aspiration or biopsy procedures.
  3. Performs routine equipment checks for resolution and other quality control procedures, as necessary.
  4. Must be able to react quickly to emergency situations such as patient fainting, patient being unsteady while getting on to scanning table, if unsafe situation occurs (such as fire), getting patient to safety and sounding alarm. Ability to work alone and get job done in an efficient manner.
  5. Must be able to lift, push, reach, bend, stop and walk in order to care for patients
  6. Develops and processes permanent film records of the examination or verifies images are sent to PACs.
  7. Maintains an inventory of coupling agent, film, drugs and other supplies and requisitions supplies and materials, as needed.
  8. Maintains sterile instruments, as needed, may clean and re-sterilize them or return them to central supply for sterilization and storage.
  9. Teaches ultrasound technique to student technologists.
  10. Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments, as appropriate.
  11. Must be included in call rotation on a scheduled basis, and able to be on call and in the department within 1 hour after being called for a procedure.
  12. Must be able to sit/stand for prolonged period of time in performing the ordered examination (usually 30-60 minutes for each patient).

Salary Range: Grade 85 min $32.63 max $48.98 (Plus per diem incentive)
