Job Description Summary:
Under direct supervision, to participate in a work group, and to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the production, installation, maintenance and repair of Open Space and Mountain Parks signs.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (by ranking of importance)
Assumes responsibility and accountability for the final work product.
Can prioritize and respond to scheduled and unscheduled sign requests.
Facilitates good communications with coworkers and supervisors. This includes sharing information, providing and receiving feedback. Listening to and respecting input, participating in work group conversations, and dealing directly with issues that arise.
Contributes to weekly work plans. Maintains records of work performed. Effectively uses a GIS sign inventory management system to document new / replaced signs.
Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Establishes safe and appropriate work zones while performing work. Responsible for safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Reports all accidents and damage to City property.
Assess sign infrastructure for damage, vandalism, and maintenance needs. Identifies problems, determines appropriate field solutions, and performs maintenance / repair tasks, while communicating work to be performed with the Signs Team. This includes the following:
Maintains trailhead visitor information boards and other trailhead information signs in a readable and safe condition.
Prepare, install, and remove temporary visitor information signs and fliers.
Assists with fabrication of signposts and signs: cutting, staining, filing, and applying vinyl.
Assists with the installation of structures: Trailhead ID signs, kiosks, signposts, and update boards.
Maintains facility signs at buildings.
Monitors damage, vandalism or theft of signs and reports problems to appropriate staff.
Assist with implementation of temporary visitor alerts as needed.
Routinely interacts directly with the public in a respectful, courteous and considerate manner.
Assists the Sign Team in maintaining adequate inventories of sign infrastructure and supplies.
Utilizes department resources such as Sign and Graphics Manual, Signs Inventory, Visitation Statistics, Integrated Site Projects, and the Open Space & Mountain Parks Master Plan to make informed decisions.
Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the City.
Responsible for knowing and complying with all City and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience with the trail system at Open Space & Mountain Parks.
Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment. Ability to access remote sites while carrying tools and signs / posts.
Physical ability to work in and around moving traffic (vehicle and pedestrian) and equipment, requiring standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
Upper body strength to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis and 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
Ability to utilize all required safety equipment.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment including (but not limited to) small tractors with buckets, augers, mowers, 4-wheel drive vehicles, trailers, computers, vinyl sign cutter, hand and power tools, long-handled tools, and service vehicles.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to set daily schedules and prioritize tasks.
Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed, problems encountered and materials and services used in the performance of daily tasks.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications
Experience working in a natural resources agency.
CPR and basic First Aid certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS - Required Physical and Mental Effort and Environmental Conditions
Physical and Mental Effort
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an outdoor environment and in an office setting. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/ or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment
Works in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions and in an indoor environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the following: Hand tools, power tools, long-handled tools, measuring devices, personal computer, trucks, augers, jackhammer/post driver, hydraulic post pullers, sign fabrication plotter/cutter and GIS data collection devices, cellular phone, and digital cameras.
