Vice President, National Purchasing & Operations

Drees Homes is seeking a Vice President of National Purchasing & Operations. This position is responsible developing and leading company-wide strategies, processes, and policies for supply chain, purchasing, estimating, permitting, and design centers. These efforts should be optimized and aligned for fit with the Company’s strategic plan and commitments for customer service, communicating effectively, always doing what’s right, relationship building, and exceptional quality. Through both direct reports at corporate and indirect reports within the divisions, this position will be responsible for achieving company-wide operating goals and objectives, including product quality and cost, cycle times, service levels, safety, continuous improvement, and talent development.

This position will manage and supervise the responsibilities of the Corporate Operations & Process Improvement Manager, Operations Resource Manager, and Office Manager.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Vice President/National Purchasing & Operations, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for influencing and achieving company-wide results. As a member of the leadership team, this position will collaborate closely with all division and regional Presidents and corporate Vice-Presidents, especially the Vice-President of Production. This role will develop high quality and lasting vendor relationships to position Drees as the builder of choice. This position will initiate and lead process improvement, technology, and analytics to deliver consistent and timely results that match internal expectations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

3. Coach and develop organizational talent with a focus on driving growth through purchasing, estimating, and design centers excellence.
4. Establish and monitor performance metrics related to the supply chain.
5. Standardize operating best practices, policies, and forms, and audit compliance.
6. Negotiate national and regional contracts.
7. Identify and implement changes to reduce cycle times.
8. Identify new products that meet our homebuyers’ desires for quality and value.
9. Foster a continual improvement effort focused on efficiency and ease of buying a Drees home.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Experience with a National Homebuilder in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management is desired.
• Knowledge of field operations and construction is critical.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE: 

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least 5 years of previous experience within the residential homebuilding industry.
• At least 5 years of purchasing experience.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20% of the year.
