This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) Biological Sciences Research Technician 2: Port Orford Field Station Operations Assistant position for the Marine Studies Initiative at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This position will be located at Port Orford.

This position is based at Oregon State University's Port Orford Field Station and supports year-round station operations and field work. This position assists the Station Manager with all aspects of operations: laboratories, classroom, offices, housing, education, outreach, field work and SCUBA diving air fill station, with a focus on participant safety and risk management. Field work includes on-water and in-water activities aboard small, motorized vessels and paddle craft, as well as support for snorkel and SCUBA diving activities. Provides administrative support to the Station Manager to ensure appropriate record-keeping and maintenance of required documentation.

The person in this position will be expected to obtain and maintain the following certifications as a part of their position:

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requirements :


This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Type:

This position requires driving in and around Port Orford, Oregon, and occasional longer trips along the Oregon coast. Work conditions are a combination of office and field environments, including periods at sea aboard small, motorized boats and paddle craft. Schedule includes regular hours on-Station, and non-standard hours as assigned during field work activities, possibly including weekends. Ability to lift/carry ~40lbs and effectively work in cold/wet outdoor conditions.
