Job Summary
Under the direction of the Production Superintendent, the Process Control Supervisor uses computers and sophisticated instrumentation to monitor and adjust the system, including efficient operations of the plant operating systems. All these duties are to be performed while exhibiting and championing safe work and environmental compliance practices for the incumbent as well as co-workers.
Responsibilities
- Perform safe operational duties as assigned by the Production Superintendent, working with Process Engineering and QC.
- Monitor all equipment in the plant, such as temperatures, pressures and amp gauges interpreting gauges, charts, and instruments and adjust as needed.
- Operate equipment by making necessary adjustments to the rate of fuel flow, speed, draft, and other process variables.
- Monitor production rates, emissions, and other process variables, and adjust as needed to ensure compliance with limits. Notify management when limits are exceeded or as necessary.
- Operate the Roller Mill, Kiln, Cooler and Finish Mills (must include crushing system, raw clinker, cement storage systems).
- Work in cooperation with QC and lab personnel in the effort to produce quality products. This may at times include cross training and running samples with lab personnel to effectively learn the chemistry of clinker and cement products and by-products.
- Work in cooperation with the Production Supervisor to supervise all activities of operating personnel. Communicate and assign routine and non-routine work. Get involved in coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure safe work practices are always followed. Address and handle safety issues as they arise.
- Take incoming phone calls from personnel calling off shift, complete absence reports, forward to supervisors.
- Monitor security cameras and communicate unusual activity to appropriate person(s).
- Complete daily shift notes providing summary and details as necessary. Keep accurate records.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Education
- Must have High School Diploma/GED, college coursework preferred.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Must have 3 to 5 years of experience working in cement manufacturing.
- Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, days and nights, weekends, and holidays. Will be sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
- Must have computer knowledge and be willing to effectively learn Windows, Excel, and other software.
- Must be able to see, read and interpret computer screens showing gauges, charts, and instruments, and adjust as necessary.
- Must be able to make visual check on all instruments and kilns.
- Must be able to follow directions and make decisions without close supervision.
- Ability to communicate with all plant personnel effectively and clearly in all areas of plant using English dialect.
- Must be able to understand and speak clearly on telephone and base radio unit.
- Must have and be able to demonstrate mathematics knowledge (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Must be able to work well with others.
- Ability to work with all supervisors and managers and keep them informed of relevant situations.
- Must possess knowledge of cement plant operations and be able to fill in for the production supervisor if required.
- Must possess excellent work ethic, excellent attendance and safety record.
- Must be able to read and write legibly to maintain accurate records of operations.
- Must be able to handle all situations professionally.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold and rain).
- Must be able wear proper Personal Protective equipment when necessary.
- Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, noise, heights, and confined spaces.
Compensation
Exempt salaried position, $85k to $110k per year, depending on experience.
