Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University, in conjunction with the School of Computing, and the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in computational and multi-messenger astrophysics.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Jonathan Zrake, and will work as part of a collaboration between Dr. Zrake, Dr. Jeffrey Fung, and a broader team of Clemson researchers. The objectives are to (a) carry out state-of-the art research in the physics of accretion disks, and (b) to explore novel applications of AI and Machine Learning (ML) in the design and deployment of high-performance astrophysics simulation codes.

We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in computational astrophysics, computer science, or applied math. The position is expected to begin in September 2024, or in January 2025. The appointment will be for two years, with a possible extension up to four years based on performance and funding availability.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, or Applied Math. Strong skills in C++, CUDA, and Python, are considered assets.
