Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Research, Outreach, and Instruction department (ROI) supports the teaching mission of UNCG by providing research assistance and information literacy instruction. ROI is the administrative home of most of the liaison librarians. Each department on campus has a liaison librarian who works with that department to provide information literacy instruction, in-depth research consultations, research assignment design, and collection development.

Position Summary:

The Liaison Librarian will serve as a liaison to several academic departments at UNCG, with a focus on the humanities. In this role, they will teach course-integrated information literacy sessions, provide research assistance to the students and faculty in their liaison areas, provide support for the Libraries’ participation in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), instruct students and faculty in the use of digital primary source material, including government information and digitized historical periodicals, and assist with collection management. They will also contribute to the Libraries’ active student success and outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required ALA-Accredited Master of Library Science degree
  • Required experience providing reference services
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience providing information literacy instruction
  • Prefer experience working in an academic library
  • Prefer ability to proficiently speak English and Spanish
Recruitment Range:

$58,406 - $60,000

Essential Tasks:

  • Teach course-integrated information literacy sessions in liaison areas.
  • Create and update research guides and tutorials in liaison areas.
  • Regularly do outreach to instructors in liaison areas to promote liaison services.
  • Teach course-integrated information literacy sessions beyond liaison areas as needed.
  • Provide in-depth research consultations to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty in liaison areas by chat, email, and in person.
  • Work with faculty in liaison areas to order relevant books, scores, and other materials.
  • Communicate library updates and information to faculty in liaison areas.

  • Assist patrons with circulation transactions at the reference desk.
  • Work closely with the ROI staff and student employees to provide excellent customer service to patrons.
  • Provide in-depth reference service to walk-in patrons when needed.
  • Provide chat support to patrons through LibraryH3lp.
  • Support the library’s Ask Us chat service as needed.
