Job description

Summary of Major Functions:

Provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of appropriate psychotropic medications. Provides patient education regarding side-effects and efficacy. Regularly monitors prescribed medications for assigned patients. Provides treatment for eating disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders based on biopsychosocial theories, evidence-based standards of care, and EDCare guidelines.

Job Types: Short-Term Contract (Approximately 3 months)Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: 10 hours/week

Duties and Responsibilities:

Psychiatric Coverage
  1. Provides knowledgeable and thorough psychiatric coverage.
  2. Interfaces effectively with clinical personnel.
  3. Is available to staff and treatment teams for questions, communications and emergencies.
  4. Provides psychiatric assessments for new admissions.
Psycho-Pharmacology
  1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of appropriate psychotropic medications.
  2. Provides patient education regarding side-effects and efficacy.
  3. Regularly monitors prescribed medications for assigned patients.
  4. Follows prescriptively and agrees with EDCare philosophies regarding psychotropic medications.
Outpatient Care
  1. Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. Scope of services includes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
  2. Assess, diagnose, and treat adults and adolescents experience symptoms of behavioral health disorders.
  3. Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Agreement and states' Nurse Practice Act.
  4. Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measure and billing entries.
  5. Counsel clients during appointments as necessary.
  6. Demonstrates ability to provide comprehensive and ongoing assessment resulting in appropriate treatment and discharge recommendations (Assessment completed by second session. Discharge summary completed within 7 days).
  7. Makes referrals to other providers/resources as indicated, including individual therapist, nutritionist, PCP, Family therapist, group etc.
  8. Creates an individualized treatment plan with appropriate outpatient goals and objectives.
  9. Demonstrates knowledge of and practice of clinical interviewing/counseling skills (Individual, Couples, and Families).
  10. Demonstrates ability to build therapeutic rapport.
  11. Facilitates groups with expertise, demonstrating ability to engage, set limits and monitor the group process.
  12. Is creative in therapeutic interventions to include homework assignments, community resources, etc.
  13. Timely completion and accuracy of clinical paperwork: treatment plan, progress notes, etc.
  14. Conducts UR in a timely and assertive fashion to ensure effective continuation of care, if necessary.
  15. Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric Nursing
  2. Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health
  3. Certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  4. Current Kansas State licensure required.
  5. Valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Kansas required.
  6. Minimum two years related experience.
  7. Good oral and written communication skills.
Computer Skills:
  1. Minimum of beginner skills in Microsoft Office suite.
  2. Must be able to efficiently learn and effectively work within an electronic medical records system.
  3. Must be able to efficiently learn and effectively work within various software products.

Physical Demands and Environment:

Sitting frequently, standing occasionally, walking occasionally, talking frequently, hearing frequently, seeing constantly, reaching with arms and hands occasionally, crouching occasionally and using fingers intricately. This position requires lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds occasionally.


Environmental conditions of this job include but are NOT limited to:

99% inside, 99% normal temperature and 99% normal noise as expected in a medical office environment.
