Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
Primary Responsibilities/Function: The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing community outreach and engagement and the agency Volunteer Program, including support of Service Enterprise. Works in concert with the Community Development Director and all NAMI SD/IC Managers to ensure the integrity and accountability of community programs and relations. This is a hybrid position. The Outreach Coordinator will work on site at the North Coastal Live Well Center at 1701 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92054 for a minimum of 20 hours each week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates staffing and logistics for community resource Fairs, outreach activities, and oversees NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties volunteer process; Responsible for contributing to monthly status reports and quarterly contract reports.
- Coordinates Volunteer orientations, trainings, placements, and tracking; develops structures and processes for NAMI SD/IC volunteer management and tracking (Vulgistics), conducts monthly volunteer communication and annual volunteer appreciation.
- Answers live calls from the public. Listens to voice mails. Returns emails and calls in order of direct need.
- Oversees logistics and assignments of Resource Fairs NAMI SD/IC attends.
- Assists with Education and Advocacy meetings in San Diego once per month.
- Maintains necessary volunteer applications.
- Participates in community relations efforts, including but not limited to supporting and assisting the development and execution of major NAMI SD/IC events in order to meet community awareness goals.
- Communicates effectively with community leaders to grow and support programs.
- Performs duties as assigned by the Family and Adult Peer Support Program Manager and works collaboratively with Chief Development Officer and other department heads.
- Contributes to creating a stigma-free, recovery positive, person-centered, trauma-informed and culturally competent professional presence in the San Diego community at large.
- Increases job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to Family and Adult Peer Support Program Manager.

Minimum Requirements, including linguistic and cultural skills, education, experiences, licenses and certifications:
- Must have a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience as a mental health care consumer for self or family member strongly preferred.
- A strong positive viewpoint towards mental health is essential.
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred (Social Work, Psychology, Community, Education,) or equivalent work experience in the field.
- Ability and willingness to mentor and motivate volunteers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations plus the ability and desire to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to support NAMI SD/IC's Mission and Values.
- Ability to present information to public groups.
- Program headquarters is a standard office setting.
- Ability to work in hospital lobby setting.
- Occasional evenings and weekends required.
- Community and office setting will be in more than one location. Regional travel required.
- Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Basic knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel) and web navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Reliable and consistent attendance.
