Job description
Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.
This position is accountable for securing ICD codes for laboratory testing in compliance with Medicare regulations. Responsible for obtaining and verifying the accuracy of patient insurance information to reduce rejection rate and maximize collection.
Responsibilities:
• Assign appropriate diagnosis ICD codes to lab tests
• Assist in resolving rejections and denials by insurance plans. Support medical audits by providing documentation
• Registration and billing for private referred clients including resolution of ICD coding conflicts, compliance with Medicare and other carriers in terms of demonstrating medical necessity
• Identify billing problems caused by Software, interfaces, and or other sources. Identify and correct patient mismatches and eliminate duplicate registrations
• Registration of Physicians in CIS
• Maintain knowledge of industry changes, specifically in the areas of ICD and CPT coding
• Correct billing system edits
• Determine appropriate ICD for tests requiring Medicare necessity
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma/GED required
• Certificate documenting the completion of a Medical Terminology and ICD Coding Course required
• 1 year of work experience
• Knowledge of ICD coding and medical terminology required
• Superior skills using information systems: SOFT, EPIC, and Craneware required
• Knowledge in the use of copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines
• Familiar with age and gender specific lab tests
This position is located at the Moses campus in Pathology Billing. The hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm with alternate weekends.
