The Indiana University Kokomo School of Nursing & Allied Health Professions (SNAHP) invites applications for a full-time 10-month tenure track Assistant Professor in Nursing position, with appointment beginning August 1, 2024. One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo, is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 57,000. Basic Qualifications

The tenure track/tenured nursing faculty member is a doctoral-prepared full time faculty who holds responsibility for teaching in the nursing, for service to the nursing and SNAHP, and other constituencies relevant to the mission of the organization, and for scholarship relevant to the practice of nursing, the nursing profession, or the education of nurses. At least one of the faculty graduate degrees is in nursing. The faculty is licensed in Indiana as a registered nurse or is eligible for same.



Teaching Responsibilities:

Plan Curricula:

• Prepare and revise syllabi for assigned courses
• Develop appropriate evaluation measures for assigned courses
• Develop learning experiences and materials necessary to implement the curriculum
• Collaborate in the development of the curriculum and/or evaluation plan for each degree being offered
  

Teach Assigned Courses:

• Use syllabi and curriculum plan to teach courses
• Plan student activities to facilitate student mastery of content
• Follow School of Nursing policy/procedure to maintain fair, safe, and high quality student outcomes
• Gain or maintain currency/expertise in field being taught and in teaching methodology being used
• Seek improvement and innovation that may improve student learning or satisfaction

Evaluate Student Performance:

• Choose high quality evaluative measures adequate to differentiate variable levels of student learning/performance
• Participate in ATI evaluation measurement in relevant courses
• Use measures of student performance to revise teaching plan
• Participate in gathering and analysis of program evaluation data

Collaborate With Faculty, Adjunct Teachers, Community Partners, and Other Stakeholders to organize and implement the curriculum:

• Communicate in a clear and timely way issues that arise in the organization and implementation of the curriculum
• Take a leadership role in communicating with teachers in the lab or clinical sections relevant to course being taught
• Collaborate with members of the community, such as clinical agencies, schools, and organizations to provide high quality service, clinical, and lab learning experiences that are relevant to the course(s) being taught

Collect, analyze, and use the results of multiple measures of teaching effectiveness in the process of self-improvement:

• Gather, report, and analyze student satisfaction measures
• Gather, report, and analyze evidence of student learning
• Use peer evaluation to improve teaching effectiveness
• Engage in process of continuous self-improvement in the role of teacher
• Provide annual report to the School of Nursing according to guidelines

Scholarship Responsibilities:

• Develop a focused sustained record of scholarship in an area of clinical or educational/teaching expertise
• Demonstrate a pattern of research and publication that demonstrate continued professional growth (examples include):

• Publication in refereed journals

• Accreditation reports

• Case studies, non-refereed journals

• Presentations at professional meetings, invited or refereed

• Consultation in area of expertise

• Acquisition of grants

• Participation in editorial boards of research/professional journal

• Involvement with student scholarship

• Dissertation

Service Responsibilities :

Serve on IU Kokomo School of Nursing Committees as assigned

• Provide active contribution as a member of each committee
• As development in the faculty role progresses, demonstrate leadership in this arena

Serve on IU Kokomo and/or IU Committees as assigned

• Provide active contribution as a member of each committee
• As development in the faculty role progresses, demonstrates leadership in this arena

Provide student advising as assigned

Participate in student recruitment/retention activities

Mentor faculty and students

Engage in service outside the University (examples include):

• Mentor colleagues from outside IU Kokomo
• Participate in professional organizations
• Serve on professional boards, offices, or committees
• Sponsor/advise student organizations
• Make service presentations
• Consult for organizations

The assistant professor role at the SNAHP includes teaching, research, and service. Appropriate university/professional/community service is also required, including committee work and engaging in campus initiatives to increase retention and enrollment. A commitment to mentoring students is preferred in our dynamic and student-centered environment. Candidates must minimally have an earned doctorate in Nursing or related field by the date of hire from an accredited program, and a master’s degree in nursing (FNP preferred but not required), and must hold a current unencumbered license to practice as an RN in Indiana. Candidates who are ABD or at a similar point in a doctoral program are eligible to apply and will be considered.


The assistant professor role at the SNAHP is particularly interested in individuals with medical surgical and/or maternity expertise.
