JOB TITLE: Deputy Treasurer
DEPARTMENT: Treasurers Office
PURPOSE OF POSITION : Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical and secretarial work in collecting revenue and issuing license plates.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education Required: H.S. Diploma or GED.
Education Preferred : Associate’s degree in business or related field.
Experience Required: Must be able to operate various office machines such as computers,
scanners, copiers, fax machines, etc. Experience working with Word, Excel, and data-bases.
Must be able to work without supervision.
License Requirements: Requires a valid driver's license and proof of personal automobile
insurance and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the County's Vehicle policy.
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and advanced clerical practices and techniques and phone etiquette.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn South Dakota codified laws.
- Ability to utilize various computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
- Organizational, time management and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity. Ability to explain complex policies and processes in layman’s terms.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
- Able to use County resources effectively and efficiently.
- Proficiency in business math, business English, grammar and spelling. Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections with reasonable speed.
- Specialized knowledge related to the department or function, and general County operation and organization.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with customers, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies in both writing and orally.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (shall include, but are not limited to)
- Responsible for the complete and accurate collection of all taxes, assessments, levies and other monies due to the county from all sources of income.
- Keeps complete and accurate records and updates all tax changes.
- Responsible for the collection of all fees related to motor vehicle licensing, registration, title transfers and taxes.
- Assists with applications for tax relief.
- Receives incoming calls and provides customer service.
- Assists public by providing information and answering questions.
- Collection of advance and escrow payments.
- Prepare daily, monthly and annual reports.
- Will be trained to help in other areas of the Finance Office including the Auditor’s office and the Register of Deeds office as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the Senior Deputy Treasurer or Finance Officer.
