Job description

This position is a highly skilled technical position in the maintenance and repair of multi turbine-powered rotary winged aircraft. The incumbent in this position is responsible for specialized diagnostic and mechanical work in all phases of repair, service and preventive maintenance of rotorcraft and rotorcraft engines, avionics, and electrical systems. This position entails troubleshooting and repair of difficult and sophisticated mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary aircraft systems and components. The incumbent in this position is tasked with the efficient and orderly operation of the maintenance shop, and with maintaining the necessary parts and equipment inventory. General supervision will be provided by a technical and administrative superior. This position requires independent judgement to be exercised when making decisions in accordance with technical knowledge possessed and existing departmental policies. 

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) is the largest accredited full-service fire rescue department in the southeast United States. With 71 fire rescue stations within unincorporated Miami-Dade County serving 29 municipalities, MDFR protects people, property, and the environment by providing proactive, responsive, professional, and humanitarian fire rescue services essential to public health, safety, and well-being. MDFR has units dedicated to serving the airport, seaport, and air transport services, as well as to aiding in ocean rescue, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue (US&R), technical rescue, and venom response operations.

This position will reside in the Air Rescue Bureau of MDFR. The incumbent in this position will be required to work approximately 4 days a week, 10-hour days, with a Friday or Monday off. The incumbent in this position must be available to work or deploy with company aircraft during emergency activations, until the activation has been lifted. Air Rescue units respond to on-scene trauma calls, medical transports, and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; support wildland firefighting utilizing the Bambi bucket; and transport the Special Response Team (SRT) and Technical Rescue Team (TRT).

The starting salary of this position will incorporate a Premium Pay, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe, and a Federal Aviation Administration Powerplant Mechanic License pay incentive upon being hired. Once the probationary period has been completed, additional pay incentives such as the Trades, Tools and Uniform allowance will be added to the salary. As part of the recruitment process, this position will be subject to an interview.

High school diploma or GED. Three years of experience in military or civilian aircraft maintenance or electrical avionics on turbine powered helicopter to include experience with airframe systems, powerplant systems, avionics and/or electrical systems. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic license is required. Must possess a Driver's License. PREFERENCE: Experience with Agusta Westland AW139 aircraft or with aircraft equipped with the Honeywell Primus Epic Integrated Avionics System are preferred. FCC Radio Telephone Operator's License and/or Inspection Authorization (IA) certificates are highly desired.
