Job Summary The North Central Indiana Small Business Development Center, hosted within The Leighton School of Business and Economics at IU South Bend, services small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs in a 5-county area of northern Indiana through confidential, no-cost business consulting and educational workshops. This is a limited-term grant-funded position within this center.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Builds relationships with organizations within the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem to remain aware of their offerings.
- Receives and responds to inquiries from the State of Indiana entrepreneurship portal. Directs respondents to appropriate resources.
- Facilitates and makes referrals between entrepreneurs and service providers.
- Develops and coordinates delivery of workshops and classes for small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Facilitates peer group discussions among small business owners and entrepreneurs.
- Provides confidential 1-to-1 client counseling.
- Attends events and programs relevant to small businesses and entrepreneurs.
General Responsibilities
- Collaborates with team members to develop program objectives and create policies to meet them. Coordinates program operation with all collaborative units.
- Monitors progress and maintains all necessary data bases.
- Actively recruits program participants and researches new venues and methods of recruitment.
- May provide guidance to support and temporary staff and coordinates workflow for the program.
- Researches available grants and assists creating funding proposals that further advance support of the program. Writes grant reports.
- Administers program budgets.
Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
