Job description
First Financial Credit Union (FFCU), a Southern Californian financial institution, is seeking a Network Administrator to join its team at its new operations center in Pasadena The role of the Network Administrator is to ensure all critical network systems are functional, and are operating at optimal performance levels. In addition, the Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring the privacy and security of organizational assets by supporting a comprehensive and layered security posture that protects essential hardware, software, and information assets. The duties are performed with minimal supervision and while exercising discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance on a variety of significant IT matters as described below.
Essential Functions/Duties include:
- Provide tier 2 and tier 3 technical support for detailed network and system issue resolution
- Provide tier 1 technical support as needed. Facilitate tier 4 technical support as needed, and interface with vendors to ensure successful resolution of tier 4 escalated issues
- Participate in disaster recovery, system redundancy, and business continuity planning and testing
- Respond to off-hour alerts, calls, emails, or notifications to ensure operational efficiency, uptime, and IT environment security
- Work with IT team members to identify issue trends and suggest long-term strategies to help mitigate incoming issues
- Work with IT leadership to ensure open communication of events or incidents within the IT environment
- Work with IT team members to specify and design fixes to existing processes as well as new processes
- Occasionally may be required to travel to branch locations on support calls and installations
- Work with IT leadership to prepare cost and benefit analyses for IT infrastructure and network security spending
- Keep IT inventory up-to-date and accurate
- Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server and network resources, systems, and key processes
- Evaluate infrastructure and implement projects to improve availability and capacity
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server and network resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes, or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent offsite as necessary
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and virtual machines and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
- Install and configure systems such as supporting infrastructure applications or asset management applications
- Administer physical/virtual servers and associated hardware, applications, services, and settings
- Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
- Develop, manage, and maintain approved Group Policy settings
- Assign users and computers to proper groups in Active Directory (AD) and maintain AD groups as necessary
- Administer access to other computing systems as assigned, ensuring appropriate approvals, and in accordance with established guidelines
- Develop and maintain installation and system configuration standards and procedures
- Research and recommend innovations and where possible automate approaches for system administration tasks
- Compare and evaluate hardware and software to determine best course of action with regard to performance and price
- Research, design, test, implement, and maintain the LAN/WAN Infrastructure, including physical cabling, switches, routers, firewalls, and WiFi systems
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair high level network systems to maintain their proper configuration, integrity, and performance for end users to perform their daily job functions efficiently
Network Security
- Support and configure host-based security tools, such as antivirus, encryption, HIDS, file integrity, and system logs
- Support and configure network-based security tools, such as VPN, firewall, web content filter, NIDS, and NIPS
- Analyze and define security requirements for local and wide area networks
- Create and maintain all information system and software security certificate activities
- Support and configure the security information and event logging management system (SIEM)
- Review and fine-tune existing SIEM alert rules to filter out unnecessary alerts
- Analyze and respond to real-time alerts from security monitoring systems
- Review security logs, violation reports, and dashboards daily to identify and mitigate risks
- Perform investigations, determine root cause, preserve evidence, and create reports
- Perform network risk assessments and vulnerability scans on the IT environment and provide recommendations to mitigate risks
- Monitor and evaluate user access changes
- Support and configure patch management and vulnerability management systems
- Install and maintain security patches on production, testing, and development systems and networks
- Develop and maintain security standards and procedures covering areas such as incident. response, systems baseline configurations, and system hardening
- Execute incident response procedures when necessary
- Assist in the updating of baseline configurations by routinely reviewing vendor websites, bulletins, and notifications for security information
- Assist in the evaluation of new security products, systems improvements, and upgrades.
- Recommend security enhancements and purchases
- Initiate, facilitate, and promote activities to create information security awareness throughout organization, such as providing security awareness training and testing for all internal personnel
- Proactively works on aligning IT department systems and methodologies with current and applicable FFIEC and NCUA regulatory guidelines
- Respond to audit and regulatory report findings. Research and implement remediation and/or mitigation strategies to resolve or satisfy regulatory requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience supporting the security posture of a medium to large business, with financial institution experience preferred
- At least 2 years of full time experience administering a current Microsoft Windows/Active Directory network
- Bachelor's degree majoring in Computer Science or equivalent IT related discipline, or 7 years of related experience
- Ability to work overtime and/or weekends, if necessary
