The Director of the Victims' Services Program is responsible for overseeing both the South Dakota Crime Victims' Compensation Program and the South Dakota Victims' Assistance Program. Victims' Compensation provides direct monetary assistance to crime victims. Victims' Assistance obtains federal grant funding and grants both state and federal grant money to organizations that provide direct services to victims, such as shelters. The Director supervises grant, claims, and support staff; and is responsible for overseeing all funding.
This position works in an office environment with some travel required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A background in working with victims or providing services to victims.
Knowledge of the Federal Department of Justice and Health and Humans Services grant requirements, and the criminal justice process.
Skill to:
- communicate clearly in writing;
- read, understand, apply and explain federal grant requirements and applicable South Dakota statutes.
Ability to:
- communicate well with a variety of individuals, including those in stressful or traumatic situations;
- create solid working relationships with service providers throughout South Dakota.
