JOB PURPOSE
To prepare and serve hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, artisan, and specialty beverages, as well as educate customers on the Tomlinson Cafe menu, make recommendations based on the customer’s preferences, take orders, up-sell special items, and keep the facility clean and stocked, while providing excellent customer service to patrons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Immediately greet customers as they arrive
- Engage customers before taking orders (i.e. “How are you today?”)
- Educate customers on menu items and answer any questions they ask
- Discern customer’s preferences and make recommendations accordingly, potentially up-selling
- Take orders while paying attention to details (i.e. preferences of roast, dairy and syrup)
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Serve prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
- Prepare and serve beverages following recipes
- Keep the bar area and equipment clean
- Brew drip coffee as needed
- Maintain a clean dining area, sanitizing tables and chairs, and sweeping crumbs off of the floor
- Maintain stock of syrups, bar fridge, pastries, bagged coffee, and merchandise
- Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates
- Complete tasks on the checklist (for the appropriate shift) with initials by completed tasks, working ahead to ensure completion before the shift is over. Stay until it is completed.
- Complete daily tasks as possible (first shift), and complete before end of day (second shift)
- If there is time and it is appropriate, complete items on the next shift’s checklist
- If the above is complete, ask your manager for something to do
- Notice if equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Recommend new menu items and communicate customer feedback to managers
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Including, however not limited to:
- Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Retail or customer service experience, preferred
- Knowledgeable in cash handling principles and practices
- Able to use computer equipment, systems and software used in retail operations
- Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the department
- Able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
- Able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
- Must be able to work independently, as well as a part of a team
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must possess a positive attitude
- Able to show a desire and willingness to learn
- Must be able to pass background screening, including driving record
- Eligible to work in the United States
WORKING CONDITIONS
- No more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls.
- Move materials weighing 10-20 pounds frequently, 25-35 pounds occasionally.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and similar machines.
- Frequently exposed to cleaning products
