Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation (Religious Education) FULL TIME
St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Cedar Park, TX
The Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation is the person who plans, integrates implements, oversees, and evaluates the religious education and Sacramental preparation of the St Margaret Mary parish community, with the primary focus on the catechetical formation for elementary children. Coordinator of Elementary Religious education perform administrative tasks by evaluating lesson plans and suggesting improvements, coordinating student registration, and managing library systems.
This position may include evening and weekend hours for the celebration of the sacraments, as well as catechist, parents' meetings and events preparing for the celebration of the sacraments. Religious Education classes are held on weekend, and regular working hours need to be flexible to meet these demands.
REPORTS TO: Pastor, Director of Religious Education and Parish Business Administrator
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Coordination and Administration :
- Serves as a member of the parish staff Attending all staff meetings, department head meetings, Faith Formation team meetings, prayer days, educational days and Diocese Faith Formation Team meetings.
- Responsible for the development of catechetical programs and approval of curriculum for various age levels of the parish, pre-school through elementary according to the Religious Education Guidelines and Evangelization Catechesis Manual of the Diocese of Austin in English and Spanish.
- Responsible for Sacramental Preparation for children elementary age.
- Works with DRE to provide access and inclusion for children with special learning needs.
- Provide for the recruitment, training and support of the catechists. Encourage opportunities for catechist certification as specified by the Diocesan Office of Catechesis. Manages, coaches, evaluates and supervision of volunteers catechists.
- Schedule regular formation catechist meetings to develop faith community and provide professional in-service growth.
- Ensure the requirements of the VIRTUS, Safeguard the children and empowering God's children's programs.
- Responsible for distributing and collecting back curriculum books to elementary Religious Education catechists and catechists aids, curriculum training, and supervising classes in person and online instruction.
- Continue personal growth in faith and professional advancement through meeting attendance, conventions, and workshops concerning religious education and reading of current material.
- Communicate with Families through the parish bulletin, website and parents Flocknote emails and others communication platforms weekly, monthly and families faith formation meeting as need it.
- Service to Parents: Provide clear communication to parents regarding programs/events/activities
- Create a welcoming environment
- Foster parent participation and involvement in ongoing faith formation of their child(ren)
- Provide resources and programs for parental involvement in their child's formation preparing and organizing Family Catechesis.
- Available to serve as a substitute catechist as needed.
- Maintains files for the Faith Formation children and Volunteer team.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge and skills:
- Practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium, and in good standing with the Catholic Church.
- Successful completion of the Diocesan Safe Environment process (Virtus)
- Able to communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
- Excellent communication/ presentation skills combined with knowledge of catechetical methodology and pedagogy in accordance with Magisterial Documents on Catechesis.
- Computer literate with skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Sign-Up Genius and desired experience with social media (Facebook, FlockNote & Canva) and Ministry Platform.
- Demonstrated competence in theology, catechetics, program coordination, catechist development, and application of age appropriated teaching methods, communication, administration, facilitation, research, supervision, and coaching skills.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, honor, and work with the diversity within the parish community of St. Margaret Mary.
