General Statement of Duties

Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, March 25, 2024.
Performs limited technical and skilled work of a sub-professional engineering nature in the field and/or office for the Department of Public Works, Traffic Engineering Section; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Duties of this position are: the installation and removal of traffic counters; assists in the performance of turning movement counts; evaluates intersection sight distance concerns; cuts brush to provide the required sight distance at intersections; generates reports; assists in the investigation and summation of crash reports; flags traffic; may drive dump truck with snow plow during overnight snow removal operations; performs other work as assigned.
Successful applicant must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to work effectively with the general public in person, on the telephone, and via e-mail; capable of record keeping and filing; ability to express oneself clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; mechanical ability; ability to perceive hazards and to take precautionary measures while working in the street around moving traffic; must have the physical condition to perform such activities as heavy lifting, bending, climbing, gripping, walking long distances, and working under adverse temperature and/or weather conditions. This position requires the use of hand tools, power tools, ladder, lawn and garden tools, range finders, camera, computers, etc.
Considerable knowledge of computers; documentation and database management; utilizes the personal computer for data input and retrieval; experience using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and traffic counting software.
This position may work overtime to complete traffic counts or assist with special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high and one (1) year of survey party, construction, or related work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Additional Information

This position may be under-filled as an Engineering Aide II (HP.15 -- $34,417 - $63,313) depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant and the needs of the department at the time of hire.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License and CDL Class B with a positive point balance. Will work snow removal operations during overnight shift. This position is located in the Traffic Engineering section.

Must possess a valid Virginia Flagger Certification or obtain within 12 months of hire.

Position may also require a pre-employment physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the given position.
