Job description
Thea Pharma, Inc. is the newly established US affiliate of Laboratories Théa, a global pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The company has focused on the development and commercialization of OTC and prescription therapeutics for the treatment of eye diseases for over 28 years. Théa is advancing development for OTC and prescription ophthalmic products and has launched its lead product for the treatment of glaucoma in the US in 2023.
This position will assist with the execution of field medical strategy to support a portfolio of seven ophthalmic products, assist with launch Medical Affairs activities for glaucoma disease, provide support for dry eye disease OTC product, and aid in continued pipeline development. This position will also establish appropriate strategic partnership with centers of excellence, institutions, consultants and KOLs in areas of scientific interest.
Key Responsibilities
The areas of specific responsibility will include the following:
- Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with key medical experts in the ophthalmic community.
- Maintain In-depth functional clinical knowledge of the entire Thea Pharma Inc portfolio.
- Applies advanced field-based medical experience, subject matter knowledge, and skills in supporting medical strategies for Thea products and compounds and in addressing unsolicited requests for medical information from healthcare professionals, as well as managed care organizations, payers, and other formulary decision makers.
- Participates in, leads, and contributes to projects and initiatives that increase the value and productivity of Medical Affairs (MA).
- Collaborates with physicians on MA initiatives including publications, advisory boards, medical education.
- Expands on and leverages relationships by aligning expertise with Thea needs. Successfully connects experts internally to serve as advisors, expert guest speakers, investigators, and business development partners.
- Actively participates in executing MA strategy at medical conferences by identifying relevant sessions, coordinating field coverage, gathering competitive intelligence, and proactively facilitating expert interactions with Thea stakeholders.
- Actively participates in, and contributes to, MA or cross-functional projects/initiatives.
- Serves as scientific peer-to-peer resource to external disease experts and internal stakeholders.
- Regularly collects and interprets medical insights and intelligence gathered from scientific exchange with key external stakeholders.
- Communicates relevant information to internal stakeholders in order to define, update, and support medical strategies.
- Communicate clinical insights on new data to MA and to inform medical strategy for the therapeutic area.
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of MSL activities.
- Serves as field support mentor to junior MSLs by request of the head of Field Medical Affairs
Qualifications
- A minimum of four year of medical science liaison and clinic/research relevant experience
- Communication skills, both oral and written, and able to engender trust and respect of peers, team members and leaderships.
- Well-versed in highly technical and scientific languages in order to communicate with key Thought Leaders, Medical Affairs, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders.
- Firm understanding of the key phases, processes, and techniques that are involved in both the pre-clinical and clinical aspects of drug development.
- Proven track record of teamwork, decision-making and focus on meeting objectives.
- Ability to use field-based telephone and digital tools for all aspects of the job is critical.
- Ability to drive to or fly to meetings/client sites.
- Previous Ophthalmic Medical Science Liaison experience preferred.
- Clinical, research, or teaching experience preferred.
EDUCATION
An MD, PhD, OD or PharmD degree is required
Travel Expectations:
Applicants for this position should live in a metro area with a major airport (e.g., Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, St. Louis, or Chicago) as this position requires extensive travel.
