General Summary: The ECE Retention Specialist at Middlesex Community College plays a crucial role in supporting students within the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. This position involves overseeing course placement, providing coaching and academic support, and collaborating on course offerings to align with program objectives. The specialist maintains office hours, assesses students' needs, and facilitates referrals to services, actively contributing to the program's overall success. Additionally, the specialist collaborates with the ECE Career Pathways Grant Director to ensure students receive comprehensive advising, tutoring, supplemental instructions, and other necessary support for academic success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with current and future ECE students to determine appropriate placement in college courses/ including assisting with any placement testing, collecting transcripts, and reviewing for course eligibility as outlined in the grant requirements
- Provide coaching and academic support for students enrolled in grant courses
- Serve as a liaison for adult learners and workforce educators enrolled in grant courses including developing an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) focused on career and academic needs, general advising, and directing students to other college supports as necessary
- Collaborate with lead personnel to determine course offerings
- Collaborate with college offices and community partners on recruitment and registration of grant students, including attending open houses and other events
- Work with the Career Pathways Director to ensure that all project goals and related task timelines are completed in an efficient manner, including data collection and reports
- Develop and implement data collection tools to gather student feedback on grant participation
- Prepare documents related to the grant, as required, including maintaining records of student progress for reporting purposes and data collection and compilation for quarterly report
- Maintain on-campus and Zoom office hours for individual student check-ins and regular weekly meetings with individuals, groups, and cohorts of students.
- Assess students' academic and personal needs and barriers to determine the appropriate support services.
- Serve as a resource for students to include academic support services including tutoring, technology, and other services that increase their success in the ECE Program.
- Refer students to services and resources as appropriate.
- Provide follow-up to ensure students access available services.
- Assist the Career Pathways Grant Director with the development and implementation of programs, events, training, and workshops in accordance with the program's action plan.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends as necessary.
Job Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field
- Experience in higher education
- Experience in academic counseling and early childhood career development
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Additional Information: Salary Range : $32.00 per hour in accordance with MCC Part-Time Wage Schedule
Location : Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours : 18.5 per week, schedule to be determined upon hire.
