University, MO | United States

Job description

The Mathematics department at Stony Brook University seeks to hire, engage, and mentor a PRODIG Fellow who can help catalyze our campus' commitment to inclusive solutions-driven research and scholarship. As a public university dedicated to addressing society's greatest challenges through research and education, we understand a genuine commitment to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is key to academic excellence, new discoveries, and societal change. PRODIG Fellows will engage in scholarship and teaching in clusters that represent key areas in Stony Brook's current and growing strengths, bringing a commitment to advancing DEI through research, pedagogical advances, and service.

PRODIG Fellows are full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track lecturer positions appointed at an annual salary of $80,000 with comprehensive state benefits, to commence Fall 2024. Importantly, the fellows will be part of a mentored research environment, with a modest teaching load. At the completion of this two-year position, fellows with an upward trajectory of scholarly achievement and a demonstrated contribution to diversity, equity and inclusion, will be invited to join the tenure-track faculty at Stony Brook University through an internal promotion process.

Our 1,100 acre campus is home to 24,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, and more than 13,500 faculty and staff, including those employed at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Suffolk County's only academic medical center. The University is a member of the Association of American Universities and co-manager of nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), a multidisciplinary research laboratory supporting world class scientific programs. The recently established Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, located next to the math building, runs intensive programs on the interface between mathematics and theoretical physics, over one thousand scientists pass through the SCGP annually. Many opportunities exist for collaborative research, and in some cases, joint appointments can be arranged.

Home to many highly ranked graduate research programs, Stony Brook University is located 60 miles from New York City on Long Island's scenic north shore. The Long Island Rail Road connects the Stony Brook Station on campus to midtown Manhattan.
