The School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts ( SVPDA ) is seeking applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE ), 9-month, fixed-term position as an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Music Technology and Production ( MTP ). Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, higher rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. The faculty member appointed will add to the growing culture of music technology at Oregon State through curricular and co-curricular activities and become a vibrant and collaborative member of the university community through course instruction, engagement, and collaboration with other tracks in music and across other disciplines within and beyond the School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts ( SVPDA ). The faculty member in this role is also expected to maintain an active creative and scholarly output and profile.Oregon State University offers rigorous programs in music performance, education, and technology and production leading to a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Music degree; minors in music, production, and performance; and an online major in Contemporary Music Industry through OSU's highly regarded Ecampus. OSU will open the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx) in April, adding to campus state-of-the-art performance and exhibition spaces. This will be followed in the coming years by the opening of the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, a team-based transdisciplinary research and teaching center that will contain one of the nation's most powerful supercomputers.
Music Technology and Production ( MTP ) is a comprehensive program that lies at the intersections of commercial and experimental media, art and science, research and practice, and teaching and learning. We bridge classroom study with real-world experiential learning opportunities on campus and within our community. Regular co-curricular opportunities for students include a term-end concert series, annual MTP album, ongoing STEAM research, sound design for theatre, and visual media productions. MTP facilities include six post-production labs, a multitrack recording studio, and an 8-channel immersive audio lab. A general access recording service, recording label, and late-night concert series are in development.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
