Job description

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC has an opening for an Architectural Designer   to support on-going projects in the  Atlanta, GA  office.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

· Demonstrate a deep understanding of design principles, building materials, and construction methods, ensuring projects are feasible and constructible.

· Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, tradespeople, and contractors to contribute to the creation of concept design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.

· Conduct thorough reviews of applicable building codes and industry standards to ensure project compliance.

· Prepare comprehensive zoning and building code analyses and reviews.

· Research, compile, and organize project specifications to guide project execution.

· Translate conceptual designs into complete Design Development (DD) sets and further advance them into comprehensive Construction Drawings (CD).

· Oversee materials research and integrate project data throughout the design process to meet specified building requirements.

· Facilitate the timely submission of drawings to relevant authorities having jurisdiction.

· Attend construction meetings and conduct periodic construction administration visits as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

· Master’s degree in Architecture, or Building Construction.

· One year of experience in architectural design across the entire construction continuum, collaborating with engineers, architects, tradespeople, and contractors to enhance building programs.

· One year of experience in design on manufacturing efficiency, constructability, and supply chain considerations.

· Knowledge in cost estimating, clash detection, and submittal reviews.

· Familiarity with principles of Lean Construction through Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC).

· Proficient in using Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.

· Strong research skills in compliance with building codes and standards including IBC, ADA, NFPA, FGI, Joint Commission, ASHRAE, and IECC.
