Summary: The IT Project Management Office is currently in search of a Project Support Specialist who will play a crucial role in overseeing the management of university-wide strategic projects.

Classification Summary: Performs project coordination duties relevant to problems associated with existing systems and processes. Ensures that all schedules are effectively communicated to meet required organizational milestones. Drafts, reviews, finalizes, and submits project status reports and ensures that documentation are complete. Completes technical duties related to operating and administering projects that affect the status and successful completion of various organizational activities.

Classification Standard Duties: Resolves problems in areas of systems, applications, and equipment through comprehensive review and planning. Ensures that all schedules are effectively communicated to meet required organizational milestones. Drafts, reviews, finalizes, and submits project status reports and ensures that documentation is complete. Completes technical duties related to operating and administrative projects that affect the status and successful completion of various organizational activities. Conducts final walk through and turnover processes. May be required to coordinate with a few technicians or others who assist in specific assignments. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This position is within the Project Management Office which supports the Chief Information Officer (CIO), IT Leadership. The purpose of this position is to assist in the Management of Information Technology (IT) projects that span the entire central IT organization and the NMSU system.

Identifies and participates in the evaluation of strategic opportunities pertinent to the objectives of the overall activity. May participate in interactions with senior management and administrators within the university and, as appropriate, within industry and government, to represent and promote the development of strategic programs on a project management basis. The position manages projects and initiatives; it does not involve formal, direct management of employees. Assist in managing project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope. Assist in the development or update of IT projects plans. Monitor or track project milestones and deliverable. Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems. Coordinates activities of project personnel/stakeholder, including scheduling and facilitating meetings. Cascade and WordPress experience preferred.

Under general supervision and partnership, analyze project requests, understand business requirements, and participate in the exploration of options for the implementation of project requests. Assist in collecting data for the management of IT project/service portfolio. Understand and assist in the creation of RFI, RFP, & RFQ. Assist in the preparation of project and portfolio reports through collection and summarization of data and trends. Identifies policy and procedure gaps wherever noticed. Assist in wrangling activities within the IT - Project Management Office.
