Job Description:

The Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel instructor will conduct behind-the-wheel ( BTW ) lessons for high school students with varied levels of experience. This position is on the road, real time driving in a Driver Education training car with a passenger side brake pedal. This position requires scheduling flexibility. The number of lessons scheduled each day/week cannot be guaranteed. This position is part-time and may include weekends. A typical schedule includes after school and weekend hours (including Sundays) during the school year and the summer.

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible to become a BTW instructor, you must be at least 25 years old, have a valid driver's license that permits unaccompanied driving, and have a clear driving record for the previous two years as defined in Iowa Administrative subrule 761-634.7©. The process for becoming a new behind-the-wheel instructor includes completing a behind-the-wheel instructor training program.
This class is offered online twice a year. The current class is available through mid-April. For more information or to register for this class contact Megan @ 319.323.7874. Instructor will also need a certification from the Iowa Department of Transportation and and authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Hiring process includes an ability to pass a background check. 

Physical Demands:

This position demands the ability to sit in a car for long periods. The ability to get in and out of an automobile several times a day, react quickly to emergencies and properly use the instructor brake.

Ability to occasionally lift 10 pounds, ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone, and other basic office equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and use a phone. Some travel, by vehicle, may be required. Reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, and ability to work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving, organizational skills with the teaching and learning process, and high level of inter-personal skills is preferred.
