Job description
Goucher College invites applications for an open rank (Assistant/Associate/Professor of Practice) professor of Public Health, beginning August 2024. We invite applicants who share Goucher's commitment to fostering a vibrant undergraduate learning environment for all students. The position will support the new undergraduate Public Health major, which is housed jointly in the departments of Environmental Studies and Sociology & Anthropology.
Candidates for a tenure-track position (assistant/associate) should hold a Ph.D. in Public Health or a related discipline at the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, global health and/or environmental health, as well as upper-level elective(s) in their area of expertise. The teaching load is 20 credits (typically five courses per year). Candidates who have an MPH and work experience aligning with our curriculum will be considered for a non-tenure-track position, Professor of Practice. Professor of Practice positions are 3-year renewable positions with a teaching load of 24 credits. We particularly encourage candidates whose work focuses on the impacts of climate change on health, racial disparities in health and/or mental health, and social and structural determinants of health.
Goucher College endeavors to be a model teaching and learning community where faculty and students are engaged with one another in learning both inside and outside of the traditional classroom. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching students from diverse backgrounds and a dedication to engaged pedagogies that support equity, inclusivity, and student success. Application materials should clearly articulate how the candidate might contribute to the College's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion along with why the candidate is interested in teaching at a small liberal arts institution. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose teaching and research interests include applying data analysis to issues of social justice.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, tenure-track faculty are expected to conduct ongoing scholarly research related to Public Health. All full-time faculty participate in student advising, mentoring, and service to the community including participation in college governance.
