Job Description
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of structural steel bolting and welding in accordance with appropriate codes, such as AWS D1.1, D1.3, AISC Manual of Steel Construction, etc.
- Perform inspections of pipe and miscellaneous welding (Structural steel, thin- walled piping, stainless, and carbon).
- Proctor/observe welder qualification tests.
- Prepare reports of inspections and tests.
- Assist with other work, such as floor profile measurement, pacometer (R-meter) location of reinforcing steel, concrete imaging radar location of reinforcing steel and various others.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Welding Inspector and/or ICC Bolting, Welding, and Structural Steel Inspector certificates.
- Ability to read and interpret project drawings and codes.
- Familiarity with other welding codes, such as ASME and API codes.
- Non-destructive testing experience and qualification preferred. Methods to look for are magnetic particles, ultrasonic, and dye penetrant.
- Articulated Lift operators card/certificate preferred.
- Willingness to learn and perform work outside this description if needs arise (making cylinders or prisms, observing post-tensioning operations, water spray testing, etc.)
- Possess the ability to comprehend / perform basic mathematical calculations such as but not limited to:
- Calculating Area / Volume
- Torque values for bolts
- Tensile strength
- Unit conversions (Metric and imperial)
- Fraction to decimal
- Read a ruler
- Able to obtain security clearances for: Military installations, Airports, Nuclear sites and Power plants.
Preferred Qualifications (Individual qualifications and/or combinations can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification from the American Welding Society.
- ASNT (American Society for Non-destructive Testing) Level II ACCP (ASNT Central Certification Program) technician in Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrant (PT), and/or Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
- ICC (International Code Council) Structural Steel and Bolting certification
- ICC Structural Steel and Welding certification
- Experience with reinforcing steel inspection, post-tensioned concrete inspection and reporting, or other related experience is also a plus, but not required.
